First of all: If you do not feel comfortable answering in english please answer in german :) I have no problem reading german or understanding :)

I'm trying to figure out what to feed...
I'm not that happy about using pre-made food, because I believe the best way is to feed as natural as possible.
But I have quite a problem finding any info on the subject.

I was thinking about the following diet:
Extatosoma tiaratum (Walking stick)
Achatina achatina (Giant Ghana snail)
Blaptca dubia (Cockroach)
Earth worms from the garden.

Some cottagecheese, veggies and some fruite.

As supplement/treats I was thinking about:
Pachnoda marginata peregrina (sun beetle - the larva)
Tenebrio molitor (mealworm)

Would I need to add some pinkies/jumpers and/or some day old chickens to the diet?
Would it at all be possible to feed this way, and not use any special made igel food or kitten food?

I would be breeding all the feeder insects and the earthworms would be from the garden. So they would not just be unhealthy shells of fat.

hi chinchi, greetings to denmark!

i just own atelerix albiventris, so i dont know exactly what ur hedgie usually eats, but what i can tell you is that it could be dangerous feeding stuff from your garden. the insects , maybe not in ur garden, but somewhere else, at ur neighbours, or a farmers field, they could be toxid from all the stuff ppl use to remove insects from the fruits and plants.
so there are a coulple of ppl who put their hedgie in the garden for a photo or something, and it ate any insect and got sick or died..
when u feed meat that would be good i guess.

but what u have to think about is that when u r planning feeding ur hedgehog like this u maybe should talk to ur breeder so that he prepares the baby to this food. because it could be problematic for a hedgehog that is only used to kitten food and then have to soenthing diffrent.

im sorry i couldnt really help, but do some websearch. here in german i know one breeder who also feeds naturally stuff

greetings,
Daniela

Thank you for the answer :)

As for the "wild" bugs, I could just get some earthworms and breed them :)

Thanks for mentioning the thing about changing diet... I'll just have to find out what the animal gets feed, and then change slowly :)

That's not a problem :)
If I need to, I will feed what the hedgie is used to :)

I'm used to chinchillas that are very picky with their food and treats ;)
